A Thousand Splendid Suns...

That day I finished the book A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS by Khaled Hossaini.This book vividly depicts the lives of two women,Mariam and Laila in the rugged terrain of Afghanistan under the strict rule of the Talibans.The Talibans , an ethnic group of the mujahideen are Pashto speaking people who imposed certain restrictions upon the lives of women in Afghanistan and henceforth made their lives miserable. The bonding between Mariam and Laila are almost like mother and daughter being maried to the same man Rasheed(thier husband)an Afghan guy.These two endure not only the brutality of their husband Rasheed but also the appalling atrocities of the taliban.Yet they remain resilent and true to themselves.Laila lost her parents in a bomb blast during the Civil war in Afghanistan and afterwards she was almost forced to marry Rasheed who was already Mariam's husband then.Even she was misguided as a man told her that her beloved Tariq is dead.Laila and Mariam ...
I am starting with the impact that the movie THE WHITE BALLOON created upon me.This is the directorial debut of the renowned Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi.The story of the movie deals with the adventures of two young children,7 year old Razieh (a girl) and his elder brother Ali.The film opens in a Teheran market where the little girl and her mother are shopping and the city is poised for new year celebrations..Razieh continuously nags her mother for buying her a gold fish which she craves for in the eve of Iranian new year.It's a busy day as people are in a festive mood to celebrate the NEW YEAR that is beginning to set in.But Razieh finally manages to bag a 500 note from her mother to buy a gold fish for 100 tomans and return her the balance.Unfortunately,Razieh looses her money at first and when she manages to find it,accidentally for the second time she drops her money in the grate of the entrance of a store which has been closed for new year celebration.The rest of the movie ...
