Wonders of Jagdalpur

Image
Travelling not only brings new moments which can be cherished later, but also it gives a chance to explore some new places. Whenever I am in travelling mode, I try to grab that opportunity by exploring certain places. This time the main attraction was Jagdalpur though I visited Araku valley and Visakhapatnam at the same time. This place lured me and it is gradually emerging to be one of the most popular tourist destinations of our country. This city has a very rich natural and cultural heritage and henceforth draws tourists. Amidst the lap of nature one feels enchanted by the lakes, waterfalls and the forests which are considered to be a part of it's natural heritage. Chitrakut falls greets you as soon as you reach this city. I just fell in love with the awesome ambience of this waterfall located on Indravati river. It has a height of about 98 feet and because of it's horse-shoe shape, it is often compared with the Niagra falls of Canada. Several tourists had flocked there to...

Heaven or Hell?

Well, the topic is not clear when I say Heaven or Hell as someone might think which one I am preferring..However it's not so as heaven or Jannat is the only place where everybody would wish to go after death. Garden of Eden is the biblical earthly paradise- It can be sensed that whatever place the heaven might be, it has perfect bliss. There is no dearth of happiness over there. I really want my society to be like heaven because I want happiness to rule and sorrow to exit from the scenario. It has been an ardent wish since my childhood days  while listening to Michael Jackson's songs. The thought triggered me more and more as I grew up. I started to think how to reform our society as it is filled with vices and diseases in true sense of the term. I used to dream of a Messiah but he never appeared. Gone are those days of Mother Teressa (the Messiah) after she left the scene. Spreading love, happiness, kindness still work but upto a certain extent as you have to limit yourself a...

Upgradation of gadgets and degradation of values

Today when I sit down write something about improvement in technology thereby leading to upgradation of gadgets which includes smart phones I am already heading towards the edge of a sword..a slight mistake and you hack down yourself. If one wants to retreat, you have no option as you have to use whats app, you have to post pictures in instagram or facebook otherwise people might label you as 'backdated'. Even if you try hard, you are unable to go back to your traditional days when things were quite plain and simple. Certainly, teenagers using smartphones is not desirable but again the present society demands it from you and you just can't eschew it.In this way, are'nt we pushing our younger generation towards a doomed world where you see nothing but degradation of values? What I feel children are becoming most vulnerable members of society. They are loosing their innocence, loosing their habits of reading story books, creating anything on their own and ultimately endi...

A dig into nostalgia

Memories of my ancestral home :  To get respite from the daily hectic schedule of our lives, it is often seen that people rush to some place where they can find solace and one such place is Tagoreland..Yes I am talking about Santiniketan where my ancestral home is located. So much fond memories are deeply associated with this place that if I want to delve deep into it, I might land into the depths of Pacific ocean. It is not a sprawling mansion and neither is like an ordinary manor, but it's aura used to draw me greatly in my childhood and still it does.Encompassed  by different kind of trees like Mango, Arjun, Guava and so on my abode of peace has the ability to provide me with the warmth and serenity specially when my Grandmom and Grandad were alive.I used to bask in the sun in glory looking around for various unidentified saplings and studying the nitty gritty of the plant as well as animal kingdom amidst the lap of mother nature.Strolling around the vast gardens used to g...

The Ever Glowing Magic Lamp!..I must say...brilliantly witty..satirical..intelligentl y highlighting upon some v.v.v.imp issues of our society...through life ofcourse.....Kudos To Mr.Anik Dutta..BB had a certain color of it's own and AP has it's own too..which is making the Lamp all the more bright...and the color is mostly due to the amalgamtion of so many different characters with their own unique t raits..the characters are the representatives of some common urban Bengali prototypes..hilarious moments..specially,the dialogues..the fantasy tale is a layer upon the reality..and Mr.Dutta has wonderfully presented that...Perhaps he was the ventriloquist through the Genie..The First half was brilliantly engaging with a v.good pace...and then the beginning of a journey..which Mr.Anilava, actually the representative of middle class Bengali people was aspiring for..What I mostly liked about this movie was the characterisation part...when a man wishes to rise to the highe...

The Dark Holds no Terrors

Shashi Deshpande ji is undoubtedly one of the most prolific writers in Indian English literature. Her novels seriously deal with the genuine troubles, hurdles that a women come across in her life and hence her novels are mainly centered around female protagonists. The novel is a powerful portrayal of one woman's fight to survive in a world that offers no easy outs.In this novel 'The Dark Holds no Terrors',Deshpande ji becomes a ventriloquist when Sarita, the central female protagonist narrates the bleak part of her life and we as readers are bound to fall sympathy with her in this regard. The lines''Why are you still alive....Why didn't you die?'' addressed to Sarita by her mother after her brother Dhruva's death are heart-warming;it is such a painful reality to bear that a mother in a family is so possessive about her son and on the other hand treats her daughter as a burden, almost as a commodity. Therefore without knowing much she accuses her daughter S...

Violence against Women

The United Nations General Assembly defines 'violence against women' as 'any act of gender based violence that results in physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women whether occuring in public or in private life.'Now,this is a social evil which is being perpetuated since olden times.Women across the world are subjected to different forms of violence including domestic violence. But a question upon which one might ponder is that, what is the main cause behind this violence?Sadly, prevalence of illiteracy and superstitions in our society make some to disrespect women, disregard them, look down upon them as 'commodity'.In recent times, the terrible brutal incident of Delhi gang rape more prominently highlights this issue. The entire nation broke out in protest in various forms condemning such an inhuman act and also seeking justice. We are still waiting for the brutes, the animals to be punished. But this also clearly reveals where we stand in this 21st century.Tod...
